Blaby District Dementia Friendly Community is a group of organisations who have come together with the aim of making Blaby District a better place to live for people with dementia and their carers. Blaby District has an increasing ageing population and it is expected that the number of people living with dementia locally is expected to almost double by 2030.
We feed into the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Dementia Friendly Community.
Blaby District Dementia Friendly Communities won the converted Dementia Friendly Award 2018 Dementia Friendly Community of the Year - Rural area, Village or Town at the Alzheimer's Society Awards.

Carers Passport
A Carers Passport is a brand new initiative which has just been launched across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Take a look at our Carers Wellbeing Officer Sarah's video to find out more about what a Carers Passport is and how it can help you.
You can download a leaflet or poster about Carers Passports here.
What is a Carers Passport?
- This is an ID card for carers who are caring for a loved one aged 18+.
- Will be recognised across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
- It will aid easy recognition of carers in a variety of settings and enable access to services and support.
- It's available as a wallet sized card, downloadable onto your smartphone or with a lanyard if you would prefer.
At Support for Carers, we recognise the difficulties and challenges that carers are facing on a daily basis and the importance of carer recognition has been highlighted even more so with the current coronavirus situation.
We understand that carer recognition is key to ensuring you receive the help and support you need at the right time to support you in your caring role. Through provision of the carers passport, this will aid in that recognition.
Please contact us on 01858 468543 if you would like further information.

Resources
Message In A Bottle
The Lions Message in a Bottle is a simple but effective way for you to keep your emergency medical and contact details where they can be found easily and quickly by the responding services- in the fridge.
In the event that the emergency services are called to your home they are trained to look for two stickers (one on the inside of your front door and the other on your fridge) which will alert them to the bottle and its possibly life saving content.
Where to get one?
You can collect a Message in a bottle from Blaby District Council by calling 0116 275 0555.

If somebody living with dementia goes missing, it's a very stressful situation for everyone concerned.
The Herbert Protocol is a national scheme and is available through Leicestershire Police.
You can download the form below or pick one up from your local police station.
Complete the form with information about the person with dementia and keep it in a safe place.
If the person goes missing, add any relevant recent information and give the form to the police as it will have vital information about the person to help find them
