A Gift of Time

Alzheimer's Society in Leicestershire is looking for volunteers to give the gift of time to help people with dementia.

Volunteers are needed to work alongside people with dementia through Leicestershire and Rutland's Side by Side service. The project enables people living with dementia to keep doing the things they love, such as visiting museums, going to the cinema or watching football.

Volunteers can opt to offer anything from a couple of hours a week and are given training by the charity.

Suna Tilley, Alzheimer's Society Side by Side Manager for Leicestershire, said:

'The sad reality is that people with dementia can often become isolated and find it difficult to remain part of their community with many people feeling they are missing out on things that they used to love doing. We want volunteers to give the gift of time and help someone to stay connected and involved in hobbies and activities that they love. It can make a real difference to someone's life, as well as being incredibly rewarding for the volunteer.'

Alzheimer's Society is currently piloting the Side by Side service in a number of areas including Leicestershire.
